Chrissy Teigen and Honest Motherhood: Postpartum Depression

in People by

chrissy-teigen-01-435-1

Chrissy Teigen, the wife of John Legend, has opened up about her experience with postpartum depression.

Chrissy Teigen initially had a difficult time becoming pregnant, but she and John were thrilled when they found out they were expecting. Through her experience of motherhood, Teigen is trying to destigmatize the shame and confusion that surrounds what many women feel after childbirth.

After feeling out of sorts for a period, Teigen made an appointment with her GP to explain what she had been feeling and experiencing. Seeking expert advice was the best thing she could have done.

“I looked at my doctor, and my eyes welled up because I was so tired of being in pain. Of sleeping on the couch. Of waking up throughout the night. Of throwing up. Of taking things out on the wrong people. Of not enjoying life. Of not seeing my friends. Of not having the energy to take my baby for a stroll,” she wrote in the April issue of Glamour.

“There are weeks when I still don’t leave the house for days; then I’m randomly at the Super Bowl or Grammys. (This is cringeworthily unrelatable, and I am very aware of that—it’s giving me anxiety.),” she continued. “Physically, I still don’t have energy for a lot of things, but a lot of new moms deal with this. Just crawling around with Luna can be hard. My back pain has gotten better, but my hands and wrists still hurt. And it can still be tough for me to stomach food some days. But I’m dealing.”

I think women of all ages can appreciate Teigen’s honesty. She is not one to beat around the bush or back down from her beliefs. She is a role model for those women struggling with postpartum depression and just a strong female role model in general. Cheers to you Chrissy Teigen. We hope you come out of this stronger and enjoy time with your supportive husband and cute baby.

Madonna Adopts Twin Sisters from Malawi

Madonna has opened her heart—and her home—to a set of twins, two girls, Esther and Stella.

“I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi and am overjoyed that they are now part of our family,” the Material Girl, 58, told her 8.7 million Instagram followers Wednesday. “I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible, and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time. Thank you also to my friends, family and my very large team for all your support and love!” This information was posted on her Instagram accompanying the picture above with Madonna walking hand in hand with the girls.

A court in Lilongwe granted Madonna permission to adopt the 4-year-old twins, whose mother died in childbirth and whose father appeared in court during the proceedings. Judge Fiona Mwale said Madonna can provide a loving home for the girls in a “luxurious, spacious and comfortable abode in an affluent neighborhood” in the U.S. And though she is “above the age normally considered within the ranges of parenting,” Mwale said, Madonna is in good health. “Her charity work brings her into contact with orphanages,” she added. “And it was as a result of this contact that she felt compelled to fill a gap in their lives and open up her home to them.”
Madonna previously adopted two other children from Malawi: David Banda, 11, and Mercy James, 11. She is also mom to Rocco Ritchie, her 16-year-old son with filmmaker Guy Ritchie.Madonna has deep roots in Malawi. Much of her charitable work is focused in the country, and she is currently working on a project to expand children’s wings in certain Hospitals. She established the non-profit Raising Malawi in 2006 to provide health and education programs, particularly for girls. We are excited for Madonna and her family.

Mary Tyler Moore Cause of Death

in Death by

Mary Tyler Moore

The passing of Mary Tyler Moore was shocking and saddening to many people across the country and within the Hollywood community. Details were released about the cause of her death and different complications she had leading up to it. Mary Tyler Moore was born on December 29, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York. She became one of the television’s most beloved wives, playing Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show, and won two Emmys for her work on the series. The Mary Tyler Moore Show — featuring a single, 30-something woman in the working world — started in 1970 and won her three more Emmys. Her roles on these classic TV sitcoms have made her one of the most popular actresses in television history. The legendary actress died on January 25, 2017, at the age of 80.

Moore had been in the hospital for about a week before her passing, hooked up to a ventilator for several days before succumbing to what was an incident of cardiopulmonary arrest. According to this death certificate, Moore was suffering from severe health issues due to aspiration pneumonia, hypoxia and diabetes mellitus. After having trouble getting oxygen into her tissues, the actress went into cardiac arrest.

On Sunday, Moore was laid to rest at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield, Connecticut, according to the Connecticut Post. She had an intimate funeral with a small group of close friends and family.

Moore was a mover and a shaker of her time. She was one of the first to talk openly about life as a single, working woman.References made by Moore’s character to birth control at the time, for instance, took viewers by total surprise. Later in life, however, Moore was forced to back away from the spotlight a bit due to her health problems. In May of 2011, the actress underwent elective surgery to remove a benign tumor of the lining tissue of the brain. By 2014, friends say she was battling problems with her eyesight, kidneys, and heart.

“She was a groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Rest in Peace Mary Tyler Moore.

SNL Writer Suspended for Offensive Barron Trump Tweet

in People by

Barron

Saturday Night Live writer Katie Rich has been suspended indefinitely from her job at the NBC show after she posted a controversial tweet about President Donald Trump’s 10-year-old son, Barron.

During Trump’s inauguration ceremony on Friday, January 20, Rich tweeted that “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”

Yikes. This tweet drew instant backlash on social media, causing the comedian to delete the tweet and deactivate her account.

Rich reinstated her account on Monday, January 23, and apologized for taking a shot at the child. “I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions and offensive words,” she wrote. “It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.” I love SNL, and they are good at conveying political controversies in a creative and funny way. This was neither of those things.

Not a great moment for Rich. I would say that most of us would like to be different than our parents in some aspect, and to compare a 10-year-old child to a shooter is not okay. Social Media and Fake News have made this election cycle more toxic and divisive than normal. Trying to keep it focused on the politicians and not the kids is a civilized thing to do.

Some powerful politicians came to Barron’s rescue. Many people, including former first daughter Chelsea Clinton defended Barron and argued that children of politicians should be off-limits. “Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid,” the 36-year-old daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton tweeted on Sunday. “Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids.”

Betty White turns 95!

in People by

BettyWhite1

Happy Birthday, Betty White. For you to warrant an entire post because of your day of birth, makes you a pretty big deal in my book. I have always admired Betty White for her quick wit, strong opinions, and general cheery personality.

Betty White has had a successful career. She reached the milestone age of 95 only a couple weeks into the new year. Global News Anchor Katie Couric met with White in Los Angeles to talk about her secrets to a long and vibrant life, her storied career and her positive outlook.

“I just appreciate the fact that people have been so kind to me all these years,” White says. After more than 75 years working in showbiz, she adds, “the fact that I’m still working — that’s the thing I’m most grateful for, that I still get asked for jobs.”

White has seen a lot in her 95 years. Even though White says the country does seem divided, she considers herself an optimist.

“It’s the time to buckle down and work positively as much as you can,” she says. “Just think, ‘All right, there’s nothing I can do about that right now. But I can do my best in my little circle. So if I do that, maybe you’ll do your best and we’ll get through this.’

In 2014, White was awarded the Guinness World Record for “Longest TV Career for an Entertainer (Female).” For White, working for so long has literally paid off. Betty White’s net worth: $45 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Now time for us to take some advice from Betty White on how to live a long and healthy life:

“I’m a health nut. My favorite food is hot dogs with French fries. And my exercise: I have a two-story house and a very bad memory, so I’m up and down those stairs,” White told The New York Times.

And with that last statement, it’s actually very difficult not to like her. Let’s all try to stay positive like Betty!
